My present body of work is called
The Life Lived. Us and I
A body of life . . .
We all are born, live our lives, and eventually die, each life shaped by our dreams, passions, talents, fears, doubts and insecurities. Aspects that influence what we do and how we are in the world, with the hope that we live a worthwhile and valuable life, and at our death, leave a lasting legacy behind. Our human experiences create a unique autobiography that becomes visible in our physical form and expressed through our behaviour as we develop and grow.
Memories live on . . .
An integral and necessary part of our growth is the continuous creation of a library of memories of our life lived, which is a permanent recording of our sensory existence. And when the body ultimately decays and is recycled by the earth, our memories never cease. They live on contained both in the minds of everyone who has been involved in our lives - our families, friends, work colleagues - and expressed in the achievements we leave behind as visible evidence of our time on earth. At our demise, our memories are released to the collective unconscious knowledge that is the Source, to influence and change the harmonies and vibrations of the Universe.
Beyond earth . . .
A series of sculptures created by Dale Shields – The Life Lived. Us and I - are a visual representation of the vital relationship that he sees existing between our body and our memories, and honours the symbiotic relationship which gives meaning to our being in the world and continuing beyond it.
The female Body of carved wood is rooted in our human experiences, and the meticulous attention to the sculpted finish bears testimony to our potential to live a fulfilled and valued life, releasing the inner light within each of us. Distinctly different materials create a fluid shape and structure that characterises the rich and varied Memories, memories which eventually become part of and contribute to the greater I of the universe of which we are all a part.
